ERP for Ethiopian businesses: what it must handle in 2026

Updated October 2026

Most ERP systems are built for other countries. In Ethiopia an ERP has to get local rules right from the first payroll: the 2025 income tax brackets, pension, VAT and withholding, the Ethiopian calendar and, from 2026, real-time e-invoicing with the Ministry of Revenue. This guide lists what to check before you choose one.

Payroll: income tax and pension

These monthly employment income tax brackets come from Income Tax (Amendment) Proclamation No. 1395/2025, which applies from July 2025. Private-sector pension under Proclamation No. 1268/2022 is 7% from the employee and 11% from the employer. Your ERP should calculate both automatically and produce the monthly declarations.

E-invoicing with the Ministry of Revenue

Under Directive No. 1142/2026, invoices and receipts must be registered with the Ministry of Revenue in real time and carry an IRN and QR code. An ERP that cannot connect to the Ministry's system will need an add-on or a replacement.

Ethiopian calendar and language

Staff and auditors work in the Ethiopian calendar, and many users prefer Amharic. A good ERP shows both calendars, prints official documents correctly, and lets each user choose their language.

Checklist before you choose

  1. Does it apply the 2025 income tax brackets and 7% / 11% pension without manual work?
  2. Does it handle VAT, 3% withholding and the TIN rules on every purchase and sale?
  3. Can it register invoices with the Ministry of Revenue (IRN and QR code)?
  4. Does it support the Ethiopian calendar and Amharic?
  5. Does it work across several branches, companies and currencies?
  6. Will you own your data, and can a local team support and change it?

How ELIF's ERP covers it

ELIF's ERP brings finance, sales, procurement, inventory, manufacturing, agriculture, construction, HR & payroll and more into one system, configured for Ethiopian tax, pension and the Ethiopian calendar, with ETEIMS e-invoicing built in. It runs in Amharic and English on phone, tablet and desktop, and our team in Addis Ababa implements, trains and supports it.

Rates are those published in the 2025 amendments and may change. This guide is not tax or legal advice; confirm with the Ministry of Revenue or your tax adviser.
